Power Skating

Elevate your game with Power Skating!

Sessions focus heavily on the most important skill in hockey: skating. Using innovative techniques developed by coaches at the Oval, each player’s individual stride will be assessed and broken down to increase power, efficiency, explosiveness and edge control.

Meet Coach Jasper Tang:

Jasper has been playing ice hockey for over 20 years and has more than 6 years of skills development coaching experience, specializing in power skating for 4 years. He began playing hockey at the age of 6 and when he was 18 he played for the Simon Fraser University’s varsity hockey team. During that same season he won the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League Championship. In 2008, he began to play for Hong Kong in international tournaments and world championships sanctioned by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and continues to do so today.

His passion for coaching is specifically related to skills development and his goal as a Power Skating Coach is to break down the mechanics of skating and practice though repetition so that players can learn the fundamentals at a quicker rate. By focusing on one skill and training through repetition and review, it allows players to gain confidence in their personal performance. Through this technique players can progress and begin to fully develop various skating techniques, stride recovery and stride efficiency.
