Volleyball Center of Excellence athletes shine at the Girls 17U and 18U Provincial Championships.

The Tradex in Abbotsford hummed with excitement last weekend (April 28-29) as teams battled it out at the 17U and 18U Girls Provincial Championships. The Volleyball Center of Excellence was represented by twenty athletes competing for their respective clubs.

In the 17U division, 11 players represented the Center of Excellence, with five players on the first place Air Attack squad, three players on the second place Coquitlum Ducks team, and one player on the third place Vancouver Thunder Club. The Richmond Oval's Volleyball Center of Excellence athletes also earned the Tournament MVP (Rowyn Neufeld) and half of the spots on the tournament All Star Team (Katrina Tolentino, Emma Robinson, Chelsea Campbell).

The 18U division featured many past and present athletes of the Volleyball Center of Excellence program. The first place finisher, Vancouver Thunder Volleyball club was no exception as 8 of its 9 players has participated or is currently part of the VCOE program. The BCO team with 2 VCOE players on its squad and the Air Attack team with 1 VCOE player finished 4th and 8th respectively. Tournament MVP was earned by VCOE athlete, Kenzie MacDonald, while Juliana Kaufmanis and Kira Tome took spots on the All Star team.

Setting the Standard of Excellence

The Volleyball Centre of Excellence is a leader in superior coaching, technical leadership and competition hosting that will guide athletes and coaches from community grassroots participation to high performance opportunities with Volleyball BC and Volleyball Canada.

The Richmond Olympic Oval is home to the first Volleyball Centre of Excellence. With 13 international volleyball courts and a state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, the Oval is built for performance excellence.

The Centre of Excellence provides volleyball players with the skills necessary to excel, the physical and athletic capabilities to perform these skills at an elite level, the mental approach required to produce and sustain high level performance on a daily basis and the nutritional knowledge and lifestyle habits necessary to unleash potential and maximum performance.

While this centre is based in Richmond, it is the first of several that could be constructed around the province, all committed to one goal.

Winter, Spring and Summer break camps are available to those athletes looking to improve their skills while their competition takes a holiday. DAY TIME PROGRAM

The Richmond Olympic Oval Volleyball Centre of Excellence offers opportunities to keep young athletes moving towards their goals, both academically and athletically. The Day Time Volleyball Program includes sessions with dedicated head coaches, Joanne Ross and Matt LeBourdais, along with high performance strength and conditioning coaches Mischa Harris and Jonathon Wong. Training sessions will include position specific training, small group training, assessment/evaluation; and strength and conditioning work. Our daytime program also includes access to Sport Leader, a web-based high performance training tool. Athletes can choose from two sessions per week to accommodate class schedules. VOLLEYBALL DEVELOPMENT

The Oval's Volleyball Development Program is designed for players to supplement their school and club experience. Open to any interested athlete and tiered depending on skill levels, athletes will work with our superior coaching staff to improve on existing skills while developing new ones.
