The Lead Volleyball coach of the Richmond Olympic Oval Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence (“VCCE”) leads an integrated team of professionals to deliver coaching, technical and strength & conditioning training in line with Volleyball Canada’s standards and curriculum. The coach oversees all Oval High Performance volleyball programming including our daytime VCCE, weekend courses, private lessons and developmental programs/camps while ensuring continuity in delivery by guest and other Oval coaches. The successful individual will work closely with the VCCE lead volleyball coach, the Oval’s integrated sport services team and High Performance Program Manager to successfully outline and implement a yearly training plan. This position requires outreach and collaboration with Volleyball BC, Volleyball Canada and local volleyball clubs.

Your core responsibilities include,

Coaching:
•Deliver training sessions for high school and club age athletes with a focus on excellence in planning and delivery.
•Implement a curriculum that maximizes training opportunities for each athlete based on their season of play, needs of their development and in accordance with the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) guidelines.
•Ensure that athletes are improving, developing technically and meeting their goals.
•Work closely to integrate on court sessions with strength and conditioning and other sport science providers.
•Monitor and evaluate individual development with written feedback for the athletes and parents.
•Liaise with high school and club coaches to ensure that athletes training loads are appropriate.
•Ongoing assessment of the volleyball operations and coaches. Provide recommendations to the Head VCCE Coach and High Performance Manager on suggested future programming.
•Maintain partnerships with Volleyball Canada and Volleyball BC, University of British Columbia, local high school program and local volleyball clubs.

Program and Service Coordination:
•Responsible for the programming of Oval’s development and high performance volleyball programs and camps. This includes facility scheduling, coordination of coaches and client schedules and all associated customer service and payment processing.
•Responsible for coordination of high performance volleyball private sessions, small group, team training and spring/ summer camp programming.
•Manage the schedules of auxiliary part time and contract coaches.
•Enter all programs, registrations and revenue into Oval Registration Management System.
•Process client payments including invoicing when required.
•Track metrics and prepare information for reports.
•Respond to general inquiries from members and public.
•Develop, recommend and implement departmental administrative procedures and processes.

Business Development:
•Responsible for the execution of internal and external business development initiatives such as educational based marketing sessions, open houses and presentations to sport association boards. Support includes booking facility space, contributing to the development of presentation materials and coordination of communication.
•Collaborate with fellow Oval employees and contractors on the development of new HP programming and services based on trends and new business opportunities in the industry.

Marketing:
•Design and lead marketing and recruiting initiatives to attract the best athletes into programs.
•Represent and promote the Oval VCCE in the community by offering parent education seminars, delivering team sessions for school and club programs and presenting at coaching clinics.
•Provide content for marketing initiatives including traditional print, program guides, blogs and web.
•Provide High Performance content including pictures and videos for social media channels ensuring consistency with High Performance brand and vision.

Financial Management:
•Administrate payroll and compensation for auxiliary part time and contract coaches.
•Generate reports of monthly and quarterly revenues/expenses, program hours and visitation
•Contribute to the development of annual operating and capital budgets. Provide monthly updates and forecasts, contribute to variance reports and creation of purchase orders.

Your schedule at the Oval will look like,
•Must be able to work evenings and weekends;
•Approximately 25 hours per week.

The qualifications and skills you bring to this role include,
•An inspirational and enthusiastic coach with approximately 5 years of coaching experience including prior head coach experience
•Fully certified Level II coach with commitment to work towards Level III
•A proven record of success and a leader in technical player development with a holistic approach to athlete development
•Candidates must exhibit professionalism, maturity and leadership in communication with athletes, parents, other coaches, and administrators.
•Solid understanding of management and organizational skills, strong written communication
•Presentation skills
•Great attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
•Strong computer skills– including the ability to update websites, experience using programming registration software and Hootsuite Enterprise for social media management.
•Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
•Willingness to work some evenings and weekends in addition to day time coaching duties
•Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
•Valid First Aid and CPR-C/AED certificates
