The Oval High Performance Program offers short track camps for Learn To Train (L2T), Train to Train (T2T) and Learn to Compete (L2C) speed skaters who want to continue improving on their skating technique, overall strength, mental performance, sport specific race strategy and tactics during the summer months.

Club Development Camp

Club Development is open to intermediate club-level Learn to Train (L2T) and Train to Train (T2T) speed skaters between 11 to 14 years of age who are currently competing at the local or regional level. The goal of the camp is to provide opportunities for speed skaters to train and improve on their speed skating skills during the summer months. In addition to ice time twice a day, camp training will include dryland, mobility, general strength , nutrition, yoga, and mental performance sessions. Skaters must provide their own speed skating equipment.

Elite Weeks #1 and #2

Elite Weeks are designed for advanced club level speed skaters who want to improve passing strategies, develop speed and other sport specific race tactics to support individual training goals. Ice and RIDE sessions will be led by Head Coach, Nicole Garrido. Mobility and Strength & Conditioning sessions will be led by a High Performance Strength and Conditioning Coach. The program is delivered with a consistent daily approach to improving athletic performance. Registration for Elite Week #1 and #2 are separate. Skater has the option to participate in one Elite Week or both Elite Weeks. Skater must have their own speed skating equipment.

Stage 2 Camp

Stage 2 is a talent development training opportunity for top skaters who aspire to compete for BC at Junior Canadian Championships or Canada Winter Games. Skater participation is based on commitment to improving competitive performance. The goal of the camp is to provide on and off ice instruction that will positively impact the athletes’ transition into provincial team status. In addition to ice time twice a day, training will include dryland, strength and conditioning, yoga and classroom sessions focused on the science behind good sleep hygiene, nutrition, body positivity and energy availability as well as how to best prepare for Canada Winter Games and the 2021/2022 speed skating season. All sessions are tailored to athlete abilities.

Skaters must provide their own speed skating equipment.
