AN INCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO TEST THEIR ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

Richmond Oval High Performance (OvalHP) has partnered with several National and Provincial Sport Organizations to provide students an opportunity to test their athletic potential. This unique program was developed to identify students that meet the performance benchmarks for speed, power, strength and endurance. Every sport requires different abilities and has varying performance benchmarks that determine a student’s athletic success. This program will open doors for students who meet those specific performance benchmarks to pursue further training with the support of our partnered Sport Organizations.

A limited number of schools this fall will be selected to participate in the ‘Test your Potential’ initiative. Our mobile testing unit will conveniently come to your school and provide all coaching and equipment to test your class during a regular school block. Testing for 30 students is expected to take 60 minutes.

THE TESTS

Speed

The 30m sprint tests an athlete’s speed and sprinting ability. The athlete Starts from a two-point stance, behind a first set of timing gates. The test begins as soon as the athlete breaks the laser between the first set of timing gates.

Strength

The concept dyno is an exercise used to test an athlete’s push/pull strength. On a seated machine resembling an indoor rower, athletes pull a bar to their chest as hard as they can. Athletes also perform a seated leg press to measure lower body strength. The concept dyno test employs the same muscle groups used in rowing and paddling sports.

Power

The vertical jump is a classic measure of an athletes lower-body power. Using a counter movement (knees bent) and arm swing, the athlete jumps as high as they can from the jump mat and lands with soft knees.

Endurance

This endurance bike test measures aerobic capacity and an athlete’s ability to maintain power. On a stationary bike with moving arms, athletes must hit set revolutions per minute (RPM) targets. The test is over when the athlete is too exhausted to hit the set targets. Male and Female targets vary.
