Sport Tots Camp 4-5YRS, CO-ED

Fun activities will introduce children to sport. Focus will be on developing fundamental movement skills like throwing, running, jumping, catching, balance and coordination through games. Traditional sports such as baseball, soccer, and basketball will be modified to match the development level of participants.

Oval Explorer Tots will experience it all; multi-sport games, physical movement fundamentals and a few 30 minute skating lessons throughout the week. Come explore the Richmond Olympic Oval! Camp includes skate and helmet rentals.

Bouncing, somersaults, cartwheels and more! Tumble Tots will introduce body awareness and physical movement fundamentals. Through game play, camp activities will focus on developing running, jumping, rolling, coordination and balance.

Time to start playing hockey! Get Skills 6-7 YRS & 8-10YRS CO-ED

The ultimate multi- sport experience! Kids will take part in a variety of Oval activities such as soccer, basketball, table tennis, badminton and plenty of fun games, it will be an action packed week. This sport camp is based on Canadian Sport for Life – the goal of Oval camps is to build fundamental movement skills such as catching, running, jumping, throwing, balance and coordination, while instilling the confidence and passion to play sport for life!

Try Triathlon Camp 9-13YRS, CO-ED

Swim! Bike! Run! The sport of triathlon is a racing event which test athletes in three different disciplines: swimming, biking and running. In this introductory camp participants will learn the basics of each part of the race through fun games. Aspects of the sport such as transitioning between activities, and supporting other racers will also be emphasized. The week will wrap up with a mini-event! Participants must feel comfortable in deep water and bring their own bike and helmet.

Learn the proper movements associated with badminton, table tennis, progressive tennis and golf – all sports that utilize hand-eye coordination and striking skills. Participants will be introduced to rules of the games and learn various grips, shots, basic footwork, and body positioning, while developing fundamental athletic movements.

Blast your skills to the next level in this camp for both beginners and advanced players. This camp will provide instruction on the rules of the game while challenging players’ abilities. Participants will be instructed on skills ranging from serving, strokes, footwork, body positioning and more. Players can expect both singles and doubles play in mini-tournament framework.

This camp introduces young climbers to the sport and focuses on the fundamentals of climbing safety and technique. During the camp, participants will learn some basic rope work, auto-belay and bouldering safety, and be given many chances to climb.

This camp introduces participants to the world of dance. Participants will practice and hone skills with dance lessons, learn new techniques from Oval dance instructors, and have the opportunity to fully explore their abilities. Fencing Skills Camp 6-12YRS, CO-ED

Learn what it takes to be a sword master in the historic sport of fencing, one of the only sports featured in every modern Olympic Games. We’ve teamed up with Igor Gantsevich, member of the Senior National Fencing Team and Head Coach at Dynamo Fencing to develop this exciting sport camp.

Lacrosse Skills Development Camp 9-12YRS, CO-ED

The Richmond Oval is excited to offer a week-long camp dedicated to Lacrosse, Canada’s national sport. This camp is intended for beginner to intermediate players with some lacrosse experience. Skill-intensive drills in a fun and upbeat style will build strong fundamental skills for lacrosse including passing and shooting. Full gear is required.

Camp combos combine two camps so your child can get a full day experience through a variety of different sports. Dragon Birdy Camp Combo 9-12YRS, CO-ED

Dragon Boat in the morning and have a Badminton Blast in the afternoon! This camp combo provides the variety of paddling on the Fraser River in the team sport of Dragon Boating, then focusing on individual Badminton skills in the afternoon in Badminton Blast Camp.

Get Biking Camp 6-9YRS, CO-ED

Gear up for mornings of adventure with our GET BIKING camp. Explore the surrounding areas of the Richmond Oval, including the dyke and local parks. Proper bike safety is emphasized by all our bike leaders. Participants must be able to ride without training wheels. Participants will need a 2-wheel, fully operational bike and a CSA approved bike helmet to join this camp.

Hockey I (Entry Power Skating Camps)

Participants will learn skating technique to optimize their stride and maximize their power output by improving efficiency, explosiveness and edge control. Full hockey gear is required. Participants will be on ice for 1.5hrs.

Hockey II/III (Intermediate/Advanced)

Participants will learn skating technique to optimize their stride and maximize their power output by improving efficiency, explosiveness and edge control. Please note: Athletes must be able to successfully complete forwards and backwards skating with an understanding of inside and outside edges, basic crossovers and parallel stopping on both the left and right sides. Athletes should have experience playing at a H3, H4 or Atom level. Full hockey gear is required. Participants will be on ice for 1.5hrs.

The camp is designed for those new to rowing. Learn the basics of the stroke sequence and blade work in our state of the art indoor rowing tank and on ergometers (rowing machines). Trips to the UBC Boathouse will allow young athletes to transfer their skills while training on the water.

Rookie Rugby Camp 6-9YRS, CO-ED

Learn one of Canada’s fastest growing sport with this introduction to Rookie Rugby! This is a non-contact form of rugby where players use flags to tackle. Players will work on individual skills such as passing accuracy and catching technique, as well as work in a team environment to help develop defensive strategies and learn offensive attacking and scoring tactics. This camp is an introductory to the sport focusing on basic rugby principles and skills.

Learn to Skate Camp 6-9YRS & 9-12YRS, CO-ED

Complete your Learn to Skate levels at Camp! Participants will skate an average of an hour per day which is the equivalent of two full skating lessons. Qualified Learn to Skate Instructors will teach skills and give campers opportunity to practice through fun ice-games. Please note on-ice sessions will have participants broken into groups based on skating ability.

This camp is coached by Huw Harris of Brazilian Soccer School. Soccer loving kids get the chance to advance their skills while having fun. The basics of soccer such as ball control, passing, and dribbling will be taught. Fun games oriented to expand participants’ agility, balance, coordination and foot dexterity will be played.

Brazilian Soccer School Camp 9-12YRS, CO-ED

This camp is lead by Huw Harris of Brazilian Soccer School. Participants can expect to focus on developing ball control, technical skills of passing and shooting, speed, creative play and game tactics. Demos and drills will help with skill refinement while games and scrimmages will allow for practice simulating game play. Players should have some soccer experience. All participants must wear shin pads.

Speed Skating

Learn to Speed Skate Camp 8-14YRS, CO-ED

Do you have the need for speed? Learn the basics of the fastest human-powered sport on ice in this week-long short track speed skating camp designed for beginner and novice skaters. As the home of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Long Track Speed Skating, the Richmond Olympic Oval will provide you with the coaching and resources to give you the ultimate speed skating experience. Each day the camp will spend half the time speed skating and half the time doing multisport games and activities.

Participants will gain on and off-ice knowledge and skill of the sport. Speed skating sessions are led by Head Speed Skating Coach, Nicole Garrido. Speed Skates and helmets will be provided. On-ice portion is fully padded.

Participants must have prior skating experience. Skaters must be able to stand and glide on ice unassisted.

Club Development Camp 9-14YRS, CO-ED

The Club Development Camp is an open development opportunity for club speed skaters 9-14 years old who are currently competing at the local or regional level. The goal is to provide development opportunities for Learning to Train (L2T) and Training to Train (T2T) skaters who wish to maximize their skating potential. Camp will include dryland, strength & condition, ice sessions and integrated services sessions (nutrition, yoga and sports psychology) tailored to the specific age and ability range. On ice sessions will be held on short track ice.

The Talent Development Camp is an opportunity for top junior skaters from Western Canada to train together under a high-performance program. Skater participation is based on performance at national and regional level events, National Qualifiers and the Western Elite Circuit. The goal of the camp is to provide on and off ice guidance and instruction that will positively impact the athletes’ transition into provincial and national development team status.

The Stage 2 Performance Camp is a high-performance training opportunity for top skaters who aspire to compete for BC at a the BC Winter Games or Junior Canadian Championships.
