First Aid & CPR

First Aid and CPR training will give you the skills and confidence to act quickly and save a life in the event of an emergency. Learn important skills such as the use of the AED, what to do if someone is not breathing and how to treat for shock.

The Oval’s First Aid and CPR courses are taught by Link2Life instructors who are experienced and certified through the Lifesaving Society or Red Cross.

Rachel Baaske is a First Aid, CPR and AED instructor and has been teaching and taking re-certification and other courses for over 10 years. While completing a degree in Psychology at UBC she worked as a lifeguard as well as a first aid and fitness instructor in Vancouver and North Vancouver. In 2008, Rachel decided to dedicate herself full time to offering the best possible certification sessions through Link2Life Emergency Training with the goal to offer classes that are as fun, educational and as efficient as possible. Link2Life is thrilled to be offering courses out of the beautiful Richmond Olympic Oval and looks forward to the upcoming classes. link2life.ca

No refunds or credits will be issued for First Aid courses, if the request to withdraw from the course occurs within seven days of the program start date.

April First Aid Courses:

Blended Learning Standard First Aid with CPR-C/AED This comprehensive Standard First Aid course covers all the information in the Emergency First Aid program and more! This class provides participants with the training they need to deal with:

  • Patient assessment
  • Heart attack and angina
  • Stroke and TIA
  • Major bleeding
  • Shock
  • Minor tissue injuries and burns
  • Respiratory emergencies; asthma, aspiration, hyperventilation and anaphylaxis
  • Head and spinal injuries, facial injuries, bone and joint injuries, heat and cold related illness, diabetic emergencies, poisoning, seizures and more.

This course includes Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and basic Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training. Using mechanical AED trainers, students will learn where to find an AED unit and how to use it on adult and child patients. CPR-C is the most common level of CPR. It also includes obstructed airway procedures for adult, child and infant patients as well as 2 rescuer CPR. (CPR-C is not the same as CPR-HCP)

*On-line prerequisite requirement: As a blended learning course, an online component must be successfully completed prior to class. The online component takes approximately 7 to 8 hours - this replaces Day 1 of a typical 2-day SFA class.

Blended Learning Emergency First Aid with CPR-C/AED Those with little or no background in first aid will learn the basics of first aid in this certification course. A Red Cross certificate is provided upon successful completion.
A Blended Learning Emergency First Aid certification may be required by those who are in fitness, health care, and childcare line of work, including dental assistants, pharmacists, personal trainers, group fitness instructors, camp leaders and teachers.

This course will cover: patient assessment; heart attack and angina; stokes and TIA; major bleeding, shock, minor tissue injuries and burns; respiratory emergencies, asthma, aspiration, hyperventilation and anaphylaxis including practice with Twinject and Epipen; Includes CPR certification and AED training
