The Baseline Test is just ONE aspect of a good concussion management plan, but it is an important first step. The ImPACT® Baseline Test is a computerized test that provides data relevant to the athlete’s neurocognitive abilities, or ‘brain function’.
Some key characteristics of the ImPACT® Baseline Test include:
·Takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete per athlete
·Sophisticated test of neurocognitive abilities
·Measures and assesses learning, memory skills, reaction time and concussion symptoms
·Most scientifically researched concussion management tool
·Helps health care professionals track recovery of cognitive processes following concussion
·Provides post-concussion status to athletes, coaches, parents, clinicians

If an athlete suspects a concussion throughout the duration of a season, they can get re-tested with ImPACT. The Post Injury results can be compared to the baseline results. A Baseline Test is important in helping health professionals make return to play decisions. The goal is for the athlete to have a normal ‘brain function’ or get back to their Baseline before they can safely return to play.
Getting a Baseline Test is in the Best Interests of Every Sports League
It is in the best interest of every team, league, organization, association and school to have a good concussion management program in place. The ImPACT® Baseline Test that has been endorsed and is now mandated by leagues such as the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, Major League Soccer and NASCAR.
