Sunshine, smiles, and community spirit filled the air at the 11th Annual Forever Young 8K on Sunday, September 7 at the Richmond Olympic Oval. With perfect race-day weather and a record sell-out of 322 registered participants, this year’s event was a resounding success—celebrating active living, resilience, and the joy of movement at every age.
For the first time, the event introduced a 5K Run, attracting 75 participants eager to join in the spirit of movement. The fastest runners crossed the finish line in 24:39 (5K) and 34:58 (8K), with full race results and names are proudly listed on the event website (link below).
The Forever Young 8K is truly one-of-a-kind—Canada’s only sanctioned run exclusively for older adults. Participants ranged across seven age categories into their nineties, including 91-year old finisher Gwen McFarlan. Competitors came from near and far, including 93 runners from Richmond, and others who traveled from as far as Scotland and Japan to be part of the occasion.
This year’s race was powered by 30 dedicated volunteers, nine community sponsors, and the generous support of Landa Developments, the 2025 Title Sponsor. Together, they helped raise approximately $3,500 for seniors’ charities, alongside distributing amazing prizes that added to the day’s celebrations.
“The Forever Young 8K continues to prove that age is no barrier to energy, achievement, and community,” said John Young, the Forever Young Club’s 80-year-old Coordinator. “Each year we see not just strong performances, but also new friendships, unforgettable stories, and the spirit of wellness that brings people together.”
The Forever Young 8K is more than a race—it’s a movement that champions active aging, celebrates community, and demonstrates how healthy lifestyles can enrich our cities and neighborhoods.
Save the date and join us next year on September 6, 2026 for the 12th Annual Forever Young 8K, where the tradition of joy, wellness, and connection will continue to grow.
