Sport Leadership

Gain coaching skills, volunteer experience and school credit! The Richmond Oval Sport Leadership Program is for highly motivated young adults who are passionate about sport and want to build their coaching and leadership experience. This is a Ministry of Education & Sport Branch approved External Credits Sports Program which allows you to earn volunteer hours in the Oval’s Sport Camps and school credit at the same time. The best part is, it’s fun too!

Volunteering and Practical Coaching Experience

Through mentorship by NCCP coaches, Oval sport instructors, and camp leaders, participants gain practical experience in coaching, leading games and activities for children, and developing customer service skills. The program also provides attestation of volunteer or work experience hours, a reference letter, and a Richmond Olympic Oval membership.

Coaching Workshops

Participants will complete two National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) workshops:

  • Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS)
  • Making Ethical Decisions (MED)

Registration available through viaSport.

They will also receive training and feedback on job application and interview skills, along with instruction in coaching strategies, lesson planning, and childcare safety.
