Things are getting spooky at the Richmond Olympic Oval Climbing Wall.
Ghosts & Grips returns on October 28 with a new team bouldering competition featuring 30 problems, three hours of climbing, costumes, team spirit and plenty of reasons to cheer on your crew.
Grab two to four climbers, come up with a team costume and see how many boulders you can take down before the night is over.
Event Details:
Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2026
Time: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Location: Climbing Wall at Richmond Olympic Oval
What to Expect:
30 Boulders. Three Hours. Unlimited Attempts.
The full bouldering wall will be transformed into a competition set featuring 30 Dyno (dynamic movement) problems ranging from V0 to V9, numbered from easiest to hardest.
The set is designed to give climbers at different levels problems they can get after, whether you’re working through your first competition or hunting for the toughest sends of the night.
And yes, attempts are unlimited. Fall off? Get back on and try it again.
Team-Based Scoring
Every boulder starts out worth 1,000 points. The more people who complete it, the more those points are shared. Send a problem that fewer climbers finish and it could be worth a whole lot more.
Your score comes from your five best sends of the night. Team scores are based on the average of all team members’ scores, ensuring teams of different sizes can compete fairly.
In other words: choose your climbs wisely.
Costumes and Team Spirit
It wouldn’t be Ghosts & Grips without Halloween.
Every member of your team needs to wear a visible Halloween costume or themed accessory to qualify for the rankings. Judges can award up to a 5% costume bonus for creativity and coordination, plus another 5% team-spirit bonus for bringing the energy, supporting your teammates and showing good sportsmanship throughout the night.
That’s up to 10% added to your final score, so your matching costumes might actually pay off.
Just make sure you can climb safely in whatever you wear. Costumes can’t restrict movement or vision, and loose, sharp, dangling or breakable items should stay off the wall.

Build Your Team
Each climber registers individually, and you can submit your team of two to four on event day.
Don’t have a crew? Come anyway. Solo registrants will be matched with a team on the day of the event.
Registration is open to members and non-members, and climbing rentals are available.
Ready to Climb?
Rally your climbing partners, start planning the costumes and get ready to send.
