Sport Safety & Wellbeing

Our Commitment

Safe Sport at the Richmond Olympic Oval

At the Richmond Olympic Oval, we believe everyone has the right to work, train, compete, and participate in sport and physical activity in an environment that is safe, respectful, inclusive, and welcoming for all. Everyone who visits the Oval, including athletes, coaches, staff, volunteers, members, and families, has the right to experience sport free from harassment, abuse, discrimination, bullying, and other forms of harm. We recognize that sport safety extends beyond physical safety. It includes emotional and psychological well-being, respectful relationships and behaviours, and inclusive, accessible participation. The safety and wellbeing of everyone in our facility is a shared responsibility and must always be our foremost consideration. Through training, education and partnerships, we are committed to fostering a positive sport culture where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive.

How We Support Safe Sport

Creating a safe environment requires ongoing commitment and action. To support Safe Sport at the Oval, we:

  • Promote safe, respectful, and inclusive participation.
  • Provide Safe Sport, ethics, and conduct training for staff where applicable.
  • Conduct background screening and criminal record checks for applicable positions.
  • Promote the Rule of Two and other participant protection practices in Oval programs.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, respect, and professionalism across our organization.
  • Regularly review and strengthen our practices to support participant wellbeing.
